The Adopt-An-Art Panel project has successfully transformed the Ithaca Commons construction site into one of the largest mural projects in the region. What started with 300 white blank wooden panels has now turned into pieces of art reflecting the best qualities of our community. Panels were completed by area artists, community groups, children, families, non-profit organizations and downtown businesses.
The Art Mural project was sponsored by the Tompkins Trust Company and the Downtown Ithaca Alliance. The Ithaca Commons construction project began in April of 2013 and is scheduled to be completed in the Fall of 2014. The Art Mural project was conceived to bring color, vibrancy, and a sense of ownership of the construction process to the community. Panels were free to paint and materials, including paint, rollers, and brushes, were provided to panel adopters.
The exhibit was officially opened by City of Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick on June 21st, 2013.
